There are many Americans are sedentary, these people work far too many hours and have far too little free time to seriously commit to an exercise regiment, while this situation is not ideal, there are still some ways in which you can stay healthy even while sedentary, it will mean eating less, walking more and doing simple lifestyle changes but it can be done.
Just eat less calories
Your body is designed to use a certain number of calories each day, let’s say you don’t even move out of your bed but lie all day watching Netflix, during this time your body will still be around 1800 or so, this is known as your Basal Metabolic Rate or BMR for short. The less you exercise, the closer you will be to this, in order to prevent weight, gain you need to eat just as much as you need, no more or else your body will store the excess as fat in your glycogen reserves.
Carbohydrate intake is fine if you are active enough, but being sedentary or even moderately active means, you are probably eating far more carbohydrates than your body actually needs, try reducing it to below 30 grams a day if you are severely overweight and your body fat percentage is over 25% and you will lose a substantial amount of water weight almost immediately.
Try using a standing desk
